A Very Scary DIY

Happy Halloween! You know what I find absolutely terrifying? Black paint within two feet of a white sofa.
Let's back up for a second. Maybe it's the time of year, but lately I've been into rooms with a little bit of a creep factor. Like this one by David Rockwell from the November House Beautiful. Don't know how well I'd sleep with that little lady watching me every night.

Here's a more romantic approach to the gothic look, posted over at sfgirlbybay. I love all the ornate details and how the dusty lavender sofa softens the black and white. And that light fixture!

I've also been loving the look of a bold center stripe down an upholstered chair.

Which leads me to my latest DIY venture. I picked up two of these chair frames from Craigslist for $25 a piece. I think they were a steal, and the best part is that I didn't have to remove the old fabric myself. They were painted a bland grey, so I wanted to liven them up. I decided to go with the gothic-chic black and white palette and the graphic stripe. I'm hopeful for how they will turn out, still a long way to go!

Heros: Tom Scheerer

Tom Scheerer's work is such an inspiration for me. His portfolio is varied, but there is a current running throughout all his interiors that is sophisticated without being too serious. Every room is finished impeccably, but still completely livable. There are so many amazing images to choose from, so here are just a few of my favorites.
so effortless

that canopy and that wallpaper!

Celebrity home or incredibly chic grandmother? I love that you can't quite tell :)

Taking The Plunge

About four years ago, I had just moved into my first post-college apartment. While searching for decorating ideas, I came across an amazing website that featured unique spaces, before & afters, and attainable design inspiration. My eyes were opened to the world of design blogs, and I've been hooked ever since.

Thank you so much to all of the fabulous bloggers out there for bringing a bit of joy to my morning cup of coffee. Your time and effort is appreciated more than you might know!

I've finally decided to take the plunge and start a blog of my own. I've been working on a number of design and DIY projects that I'm excited to share with anyone who may have stumbled onto this blog (which, let's be real, is probably just my mom).  Here goes nothing!
